Red Rover, Red Rover

Earlier today I was thinking about the colour red and it’s significance. I was in a staff meeting and someone jokingly suggested red type, I replied that it might feel just a tad too angry or anxious. After that comment, I got to thinking about why I thought red was angry. I realized that red is more dangerous than it is angry. An urgent red email suggests “read this or else”, a stop sign means “stop or else”, no smoking and do not enter signs say “don’t do this, OR ELSE”. One other important red sign would be the Red Cross symbol used to identify medical help, “come here when that dangerous thing hurt you”.

After realizing all of these connections, I tried to find a larger reason as to why it was decided that red would be the danger colour. Then it hit me, my blood is red. If I see my blood I’m in danger. Perhaps I am a bit slow on the uptake, but my world was just rocked with that realization.

Interesting Logos

While they are sometimes tacky, it's fun when you find a second image in a logo. I found a link to 24 intriguing logos, here are my favourites.

I've heard of the hidden arrow in Fedex, but I never realized the letters for Toyota were hidden in there logo.

Here are more logos that I thought were neat.

Oh So Beautiful!

While a lot of young designers start their education on the computer, at Conestoga we went through an entire year (for the most part) without touching a computer. While it may not have seemed that fun at the time, I look back on it with fond memories. I loved the focus on detail and the way I could use simple supplies to create something so realistic. It may not be practical, but the methods of days gone by can be quite beautiful.

Earlier in the week I was reading an article about traditional methods of typography, designers are unnecessary when there are letterers with such beautiful typography.

This type was photographed at a nameless café on a nameless Parisian street. How fun.
