Red Rover, Red Rover

Earlier today I was thinking about the colour red and it’s significance. I was in a staff meeting and someone jokingly suggested red type, I replied that it might feel just a tad too angry or anxious. After that comment, I got to thinking about why I thought red was angry. I realized that red is more dangerous than it is angry. An urgent red email suggests “read this or else”, a stop sign means “stop or else”, no smoking and do not enter signs say “don’t do this, OR ELSE”. One other important red sign would be the Red Cross symbol used to identify medical help, “come here when that dangerous thing hurt you”.

After realizing all of these connections, I tried to find a larger reason as to why it was decided that red would be the danger colour. Then it hit me, my blood is red. If I see my blood I’m in danger. Perhaps I am a bit slow on the uptake, but my world was just rocked with that realization.
